Glamourature: City of Bones Book Review

The Mortal Instruments Series
Hardcover: 496 pages
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry (March 27, 2007)
A 4 book series, Book 1.
The story is about a girl named Clary Fray who sees a murder of a young kid at a club by 3 people whom no one can see except herself. She later finds out that it was a demon who was murdered and that there is a whole other world, within her world, full of demons, werewolves, fairies, and shadowhunters. The 3 people in the club turn out to be shadowhunters, killers of "bad guys" and protectors of the innocent. The 3 people Jace, Isabelle, and Alec are part of the main characters in the series, which also includes Clary's best friend Simon, among others.
Clary's mother is attacked and disappears which sends Clary on an adventure unlike any other in order to find her. She learns that she is part shadowhunter and must now get the "cup" in order to get her mom back. The cup is what created the first shadowhunters and if used by the evil villain of the story, Valentine, could be used to create more shadowhunters, while at the same time killing many innocent children.
The story is full of great dialogue, especially between Clary & Jace. They have this back & forth flirting but the end of the story between them will leave you a bit shocked. I don't want to tell you what happens because it would spoil the book. Let's just say that I screamed, "noooooooooo" when I got to the end.
The second that I picked up this book, I was intrigued and fell in love with the characters. It took me a couple days to read, but I loved the story, and since I have not read the Harry Potter series, I don't know if a lot of it is pretty much the same as that story. A lot of people are comparing it to that series, but I actually loved this book and will read the next 3 in the series for sure. I recommend it to anyone who loved Twilight or for those of you who liked Harry Potter, then this is for you too since they are similar, according to many other reviewers.
I love that Cassandra Clare used great imagery & was very descriptive with the fight scenes and when the characters entered a new place; it really made me imagine everything and I always had a vivid picture in my mind. I also enjoyed when she would describe what Clary was feeling and then would go to what Jace was feeling as if it was 2 parts to one story. Also, I kind of fell in love with Jace at the beginning. He had this whole sexy, bad boy thing going on, and I loved the way him & Clary communicated... in a kind of smart-ass, funny, and witty way. I didn't like him at the end though, when he got all clingy and soft with his "dad," but I hope that in the second book he comes back with his witty, tough guy persona, or else I will be out of love quicker than you can say "shadowhunter." So, like I said, I loved this book. Go buy it, or do what I did and check it out from the library, either way it's a great read.

Clean Your House!

How long will it take me to get in shape?
I get this question all the time.
People are so focused on getting skinny and getting there ASAP. Trust me, I've heard it all; from doing fruit cleanses, juice fasts, injections, taking depression pills, smoking, and even starvation. People want it here and now, but they are not willing to work hard for it. We've become a community that believes that everything is owed to them for nothing. You can't achieve greatness without putting in the hard work guys!
Getting in shape takes hard work, determination, and sorry to tell you guys, but sometimes it takes a while. I know women who have gained weight over 2 to 5 years and expect the weight to come off in 2 to 5 months. Shows like The Biggest Loser, though they are inspiring, have made people think that major weight loss will always come off in a few months, but it's not always the case. Yes, you can lose weight just as fast, but it takes a lot of dedication on your part. You must eat very, very clean, and exercise every day.
It took me a year & a half to get to my goal weight: 60 pound loss. I worked out pretty much every day, sometimes 2x's a day, incorporated weights, cardio, HIIT, and speedwork into my routine and I always pushed myself. I didn't set boundaries for myself.
If you really are serious about getting in shape and getting healthy, not skinny, but healthy and fit, then read up on efficient & healthy ways to do it. Don't buy into all the fast fat loss crap that so many people try to sell. In the end it comes down to clean eating & working out. Don't starve yourself, instead eat 6x's a day, don't pop depression pills, hormone pills, injections, or even pick up an ugly habit such as smoking just to stay skinny or lose weight. Instead, wake up early, go for a jog or join a workout class at the gym, or organize your day to allow for an afternoon run/weight training session. It doesn't cost a fortune for a pair of weights that you can use at home.
Remember that getting in shape is like cleaning your house, it isn't always enjoyable, but you have to do it. You clean the house on Monday, but on Tuesday you gotta clean again b/c you've already piled up some dishes, gathered more dirty laundry, or the kids have thrown their toys all over the floor. It is the same with your body. You might have worked out on Monday, but on Tuesday you gotta do it all over again, your body needs to workout, you need to eat healthy again, you can't depend on yesterday's workout or yesterday's house cleaning for that matter. So clean your house! Get fit. Just like your house starts to look a mess after a week of no cleaning, so does your body. Try eating junk foods & not working out for a week and in a week your body will be a mess on the inside and will show on the outside. You won't have energy, you'll be cranky, maybe not in the mood for "the mood" with your hubby, and you'll have gained some weight and for sure are bloated. Just think about your body as your house and clean it.
Stay Motivated everyone, I know how hard & tough it may seem and how endless the "getting in shape" process is, but getting in shape & getting healthy is a lifelong journey, not just a lose weight fast journey. Anything that you get fast will come back just as fast, but if you change your lifestyle (NOT A DIET) then you will learn more about your body, your thoughts, and yourself.
"Extend your independence to your body. Being confident and secure as a woman isn’t only a state of mind or an attitude — it’s also manifested in how you think about, treat, and use your own body. You get to make the decisions about how you’ll work out and get fit, and the rest of the world — well, they’ll catch up eventually. Don’t worry about them — don’t even think about them when starting a workout." -Bodyrock.tv
"It’s a given that mental focus and strength is crucial to getting in shape and staying fit. Every day and every workout require mental dedication — our bodies don’t just automatically expend a ton of energy unless we really know how to force them to." -Bodyrock.tv

Woo-Freakin-Hoo!

Tumblr_li6hzjv0pr1qhrjb0o1_500_large
Hi everyone, so by the "woo-freakin-hoo" Title you can tell I got GREAT news! Just to make things clear, I am not preggers! lol. I know a lot of you thought that I was, but no, not right now. I did hit a great milestone in my life though, finally reaching my weight loss goal of 162 pounds! I finally broke the 163 pound barrier! Oh my freakin' gosh! 60 POUND LOSS!!! I could not believe it! I was so excited! I've never in my adult life been under 163 pounds, and now at 162 pounds I feel like I can reach my next goal for sure! I feel great the way I look now and at the weight I am, but I want to get into the best shape of my life and I am so motivated to do it. My next goal is to get down to 159 pounds by the end of the month. That was my goal at the beginning of May and that is what I want to accomplish.
I am hoping to lose another 20 pounds and get down to 145 pounds. I am so excited guys! I've worked for a year and a half to get to where I am now and it feels like it's been forever since I started this journey but it was all worth it. Anyways guys, I wanted to share this with you because I was sooo excited!
I took my 162 pound progress pics after today's workout:
On the treadmill: 30 second sprints/30 second rest, 10x's.
1st one at speed 10, 2nd-5th at speed 11, and last 5 at speed 12 (max speed).
Warmed up for 5 minutes at speed 6.5 and Cool down at 6 & then 5 for 5min.
Here is today's at 162 pounds: Yay!

I really hope that I can reach 160 or 159 by Sunday, my goal.
Stay Motivated people--you can do it too!
This is what I hope my abs will look like in the next few months.

Weight Loss Progress Pics

Me and the hubster were looking through our hard drive trying to find an old picture of him at the track from where he first started training and we found the picture alright--and many freakin' others! I found so many pictures from when I first started and then my progress. I cannot believe how far I let myself go! Hubby was proud of me after seeing my pics and told me that I totally should post them b/c it would help inspire other women to know that they too can feel great. I am actually so embarrassed and ashamed of myself and hubby cannot even believe that we both got so huge! The amazing thing is that hubby passed his Physical Fitness tests even though he was bigger... I still can't believe it! I couldn't run a quarter of a mile to save my life back then. Anyways, I thought I'd share them with you and encourage you on your weight loss journey. I thought it best than to tell you all that "it's sooo freakin' easy, you can do it, blah, blah, blah..." It wasn't. Not one freakin' bit. It was hard, and many days I thought I'd never get there, and sometimes, like today, I don't realize how much I've lost until I see pictures like these. Yes, I take tons of pics, but it's because I want to be able to see my progress as I go and I know that it usually won't look like I've lost weight until I see it later on. I really do hope that these pictures motivate you, because now, they are on the internet for all the world to see... so you better be freakin' motivated!!! J/k!
THE BEGINNING-222 LBS (5'9)

Then this...

 & A FEW MONTHS LATER

& A FEW MONTHS LATER...

& A FEW MONTHS LATER...
& A FEW MONTHS LATER...
& THE MOST RECENT ONES 165 LBS:

Photobucket
I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE MORE IN ANOTHER 2 WEEKS. I HOPE TO BE DOWN IN THE 150'S BY THEN... As you can see, I have a little bit more to go. I'm ok where I'm at, but I'd like to really cut the fat on my back where I carry my weight, and would love to  flatten my tummy out and really cut my abs and legs. Toning & cutting now:)
Anyways, if this at all motivated you, even just one bit, please link or share to your blog, your twitter, your facebook and tell your friends about it. Send 'em on over to my little blog, ask them to follow, and let's ALL get motivated and on a new healthy path.
Let's not let us get to the point of no return. We can do it... even if we are very, very unhealthy, we can do it as long as we stay motivated, dedicated, and are willing to go through the toughest of all adventures.
By the way, yes I do have stretch marks from my son, I tried everything not to get them, but still 75-90% of women (& 90% of white women) get them... and I want to inspire you, and let you know that yes, it is possible to be sexy and feel amazing, even with stretch marks. Yes, there are days that I really hate them, like when I shop for a swimsuit, but we need to realize that this is very common, and if you don't have them, you are lucky, but if you do have them, you are the majority. Magazines everywhere show women, after having a baby, who are flawless, toned, and "perfect," but what we don't realize is that 99% of the time these women are photoshopped on magazines. We need to see more "real" women on covers, inspiring the majority of women who feel defeated & depressed after seeing celebs bounce back from their pregnancy 6 months later. One day, someone, maybe me?, will be on the cover of a fitness magazine, and proudly show off their tight, sexy, and stretch marked abs to say, "yes, we are scarred, but we are still freakin' beautiful. Not just that, but we are real."

Glamourature Review: The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

Hardcover: 415 pages
Published: August 18, 2009 by Touchstone
The first in a stunning new series, The Cousins’ War, is set amid the tumult and intrigue of the Wars of the Roses. Internationally bestselling author Philippa Gregory brings this extraordinary family drama to vivid life through its women – beginning with Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen.
Elizabeth Woodville, of the House of Lancaster, is widowed when her husband is killed in battle. Aided and abetted by the raw ambition and witchcraft skills of her mother Jacquetta, Elizabeth seduces and marries, in secret, reigning king Edward IV, of the family of the white rose, the House of York. As long as there are other claimants to Edward’s throne, the profound rivalries between the two families will never be laid to rest. Violent conflict, shocking betrayal and murder dominate Elizabeth’s life as Queen of England, passionate wife of Edward and devoted mother of their children.
In The White Queen Philippa Gregory brilliantly evokes the life of a common woman who ascends to royalty by virtue of her beauty, a woman who rises to the demands of her position and fights tenaciously for the survival of her family, a woman whose two sons become the central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the Princes in the Tower whose fate remains unknown to this day. From her uniquely qualified perspective, she explores this most famous unsolved mystery, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills. {Synopsis taken from Philippa Gregory's Website}
At first I was a bit bored even though the story did start with Elizabeth, a commoner, meeting the King, whom many hate, and asking him for his help to get back her lands after they were seized when her husband is killed in battle. They end up fallin in love and marrying in secret. This book is part romance, but mostly war. It is not a book about love prevailing and having a happily ever after, so if that's what you're looking for than this might not be your read.
The story though is a good one; the whole time I was thinking her two sons in the beginning were the two famous 'princes in the tower,' but they do not end up being them. I got a bit frustrated with battle after battle for the throne, brother against brother, and cousin against cousin. I understand that this is historical, which helped ease my boredom & frustration with the repeated battles a bit. When I truly thought about it & realized that people actually went through this, it made it even more fascinating to me how strong these men & women were back then.
I liked the book and it did leave me with a yearning to read the next two in the series so that I can see the perspective of the red queen, and then of the other queen. I am now on the side of Elizabeth, The White Queen, but I might just be a turncoat, and get on the other queen's side at the end of their stories.
I also really liked how the story incorporated the legend of Melusina, the Water Goddess. Those few segments, and breaks in the story were very well placed and much needed. It did leave me thinking that I might just search and read a story on Melusina; it seems as if it would be a great one. Furthermore, I did not like the ending, not that it wasn't a good ending, it was great for the melancholy story that it was, but I like a happy ending, and since most of it was solemn, I really wanted a happy ending. So all in all, boring for me in the beginning, but then it got much better, and the ending was good, but not what I prefer. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars. Maybe I will like the other 2 books more.
