7 day Shred

I'm starting a 7 day shred today with my hubby. He got me to do it & I'm kind of excited. His goal was to look a-mazing by his birthday on July 5th. He's been working hard the past few months to get cut & muscular by that date. So I decided to make that my goal & to get in the 150's also... somewhere I've never, ever been.
We bought a diuretic called Xpel & are following a water shredding plan that we got from Muscle & Body Magazine. On his birthday we will take our pictures of our new bodies & show you guys our "Yay! We look freakin' fantabulous" pictures!
I will probably do a video on how I felt during the shed & everything bc it's a crazy plan, the first 2 days we have to drink 2 gallons of water, then the next 1 1/2 gallon, then 1 gallon, then 1/2, then the last, I think, is just sipping water as needed, all while taking the diuretic. Then we gotta work ourselves back onto water. Also, no marinades, salts, carbs, etc in order to shred all the rest of the water weight & bloating.
I'm excited!! I hope my abs truly start to come out cuz they are there but sometimes I'm bloated & can't see them.
This is what bodybuilders do before a competition or models do before a shoot. So I hope it works. Anyways, that is it for now! Have an awesome day guys!

Men's Weight Loss (Before & After Pics)

My awesome husband started working out & getting fit in January & he has come a long way. He's gone from wearing 36" and fitting tight to now wearing 31" pants & looking lean. He is still working hard, cutting fat & building muscle, but a lot of you guys wanted to know what he did for his weight loss. The cool thing is that if you are a girl, you can follow this workout too (except for the supplements). I joined him in his workouts when he did them & I quite enjoyed them since they were tough & it made me stronger. Here are his Progress Pics!

UPDATE ON JULY 19 2011: THIS NEXT PIC HAS THE LATEST PIC OF HUBBY WITH FLAT TUMMY AND ABS. HIS NEXT GOAL, TO LOSE 10 POUNDS & GAIN MORE MUSCLE ON HIS CHEST & ARMS.
These next are prior to the pic on the top right, which is where he is at now.

Here is my husband's training. He made these workouts himself. If you decide to use this & add it to your fitness blog, please link back to my blog and give my husband, @Bobby Don Lay Jr. credit for this workout program.
I understand these workouts might take long, sometimes over an hour, sometimes even 2. You can cut some exercises if you don't feel like taking so long in the gym, but you can also save tons of time by doing abs in between during the "rest" time instead of doing it at the end. He also added cardio 3x's a week for at least 2-4 miles depending on how he felt, he also included biking for the same amount of miles he ran. For example, I'd run 2 miles while he biked & then he ran 2 miles while I biked.

Monday: Chest, Back, Biceps (abs in between each set, during the "rest" time.)
Tuesday: Shoulders, Triceps, Legs
Wednesday: OFF
Thursday: Chest, Back, Biceps (abs in between on rest time)
Friday: Shoulders, Triceps, Legs
Saturday: Active Rest: Biking, Swimming, Walking, etc...
Sunday: OFF

3 Sets of 12-15 to get lean & cut
or 3 sets of 5-8 to build muscle w/heavier weight.
Rest Time in between sets: 30-90 sec, decrease to 30 sec as you get fitter.
{hubby mixed the first (lean & cut) on Mon/Tues, & the latter (build muscle) on Thur/Fri.}

MONDAY & THURSDAY:
  1. BENCH PRESS
  2. INCLINE BENCH PRESS
  3. DECLINE BENCH PRESS
  4. DUMBBELL CHEST FLY
  5. PULL ROW
  6. LAT PULL DOWN
  7. CLOSE GRIP FRONT LAT PULLDOWN
  8. BICEP CURLS W/BARBELL OR DUMBBELL.
  9. BARBELL CURLS 21: 7 regular, 7 to forehead, 7 cheats (1/2way)
  10. ABS BY LAY (will load a video of this later) JUST DO AB crunches here, leg raise, decline sit ups, ab pulldown, etc...)

TUESDAY & FRIDAY
  1. MILITARY PRESS
  2. FRONT LATERAL RAISE
  3. SIDE LATERAL RAISE
  4. DELTOID RAISE
  5. TRICEP PULL DOWN
  6. TRICEP OVERHEAD PULL
  7. CHAIR DIPS (at least 3 sets of 25) YOU CAN ADD LEG RAISE OR W/CHAIR.
  8. SQUAT MACHINE
  9. LEG EXTENSION
  10. LEG PRESS
  11. CALF RAISES
  12. SQUATS
  13. LUNGES
Nutrition was the most important part of his program. High protein, low fat, low carb. Mostly ate fish, turkey, tuna, chicken, and at least 1-2x he ate what he wanted for one meal during the week so that he would stay on his journey & not give up. He made sure to drink at least a gallon of water a day. Me & him both have a gallon of water that we carry everywhere now. :) Make sure to replace the plastic gallon at least every 2 weeks. They are less than a dollar at a dollar store. Spring Water is your best water for weight loss.
He also added supplementation to his program.
Here is a list of his supplements & vitamins. You can find all these at GNC. You don't need to buy these, he didn't implement these until a month 1/2 ago. He lost a lot of the weight w/just nutrition & workouts.
  1. NITROTECH PROTEIN IN VANILLA
  2. CELLTECH CREATINE IN ORANGE
  3. PRO PERFORMANCE AMP (ADVANCED MUSCLE PERFORMANCE) PRE & POST TRAINING PAK
  4. ARSON FAT LOSS SUPPLEMENT
  5. MUSCLETECH VITAKIC ( I linked cuz' it's hard to find sometimes.)
The next are vitamins:
  1. COLON CLEANSER FIBER TABLETS
  2. FISH OIL
  3. JOINT SUPPORT
  4. VITAMIN C & D3 or you can buy them separate, VITAMIN D, & VITAMIN C
  5. Be-Balanced Bone Strengthening Calcium soft chews (these are yummy)
Finally when you want to cut, for a photo shoot, or a day at a pool party, or to cut water, you can use a diuretic such as XPEL Extreme Muscle Defining Formula. Use w/caution & follow the directions to the tee.
Good luck with all your hard work & don't forget to follow & send my hubster a message on his FB page to say congrats on his hard work! :)
p.s. hubby's birthday is in 10 days & he will take a new picture then, & I'll post:)

How to Gain Some Killer Abs

I get questions all the time about my fitness regimen, but this is one I get all the time, especially now that I've shown them on a video. I got them again. If you have q's, feel free to send me an email to: reynalay@gmail.com or just comment on this blog, it goes directly to my email & I will answer it as soon as I get the chance, either on here or on a video. If the question came from here, I'll link the video here.

Q: How did you get a flat tummy & abs? What kind of ab work do you do?

A: I didn't (don't) do any ab work, not really. I did Ab ripper by P90x sometimes, prob a total of 10x in 2 rounds of p90x. What a lot of people know, but don't truly realize is that everyone has abs, most are hidden under all the fat we hold. As you eat right & do cardio you make your abs work & you burn the surrounding fat. When you run, sit up tall, or lift weights you make your ab muscles stronger & they look nicer. Your abs will begin to show as you lose that fat around them.
I am know seeing my abs, but I've noticed that if I eat too much carbs or take in too much sodium then I retain water & can't see them anymore. Last week we went out to eat hot wings & fries & I ate my whole plate full. By the time I got home I looked 6 mts pregnant because of all the sodium in the food & because my body just wasn't used to breaking down so much unhealthy food & carbs.
*************
Another thing is that you MUST drink at least a gallon of water/day to flush water & salt out of your system. Drink water to flush water. Drink a little bit of water & you won't ever see your abs bc then it will withhold water in your body to conserve. Same for food, if you eat small meals 6x a day then your body will constantly burn bc it knows you are going to feed it again soon, but if you are always starving yourself then your body will withhold the little you eat and make it into fat to store because it's used to you starving it.
You should work out 30 minutes a day to maintain your weight, or 45 min to an hour to lose weight. Also, don't deprive yourself of the things you like. I have just gotten into eating ice cream, which I never really liked, and if I have a craving for it, I serve myself a bowl & enjoy it, but I don't fill up a HUGE bowl, just a regular amount. The next day, I won't be craving it and my body will burn it since I'm doing a hard workout. On a rest day though, I usually eat healthier since I know I'm not getting a workout in.
Your abs will show as you get thinner & leaner. Everyone has them, yes you too, you just gotta burn the tire around it. Stay Motivated! you can do it. I didn't think I could, and yes it took a long time, but I would do it all over again if I had to, bc it's well worth it.

Running Realization

Tumblr_ln7bknipd11qjsg87o1_500_large
Hi everyone, so I have maintained my weight at 162, which is great cuz I've been adding yummy foods to my daily meals that I enjoy such as, pizza one day, Olive Garden another, Starbux yesterday, and so on. I've learned to enjoy things I love but smaller amounts & then to still work hard when I workout.
I've been running pretty long every other day, no less than 6 miles. I've changed my workout schedules so that my body doesn't get used to my workouts, and I've actually dropped weight training, but I'll add that in later. Most of my runs are 8 miles, 9 miles, & 10 miles. My legs don't get too tired bc I run long, rest a day, & then run long again. Though I am maintaining weight, my body looks more lean than usual. We took a few pictures yesterday as we enjoyed one of our last trail runs before we move on out of here & to Missouri. I have to say, I look pretty darn good. I didn't realize it.
I usually take my top off & run in a sports bra at the trail cuz no one's around but the hubbers & me & a few bikers, but wen I see people coming I put it on quickly, this time hubby said, "be confident, you look great." Easier said than done, he doesn't have stretch marks that make your tummy look even more jiggly where there is fat. But, I trusted him & I did & I was sooo self-conscious. But after our 7 mile run I took a look at these pictures as I uploaded them & I gotta say, I was surprised. Sometimes, since you see yourself every. single. day. you don't realize your progress, but after these pictures, I realized I've lost 60 pounds & gained some abs! I still have a ways to go because my tummy does shake & I still have some love handles that make me self conscious when I run because I can feel them jiggling, but at least when I go out & run in my sports bra I will know that I've come a looooong way & I have earned it. I can feel proud of my accomplishments.
I know I can't get rid of my stretch marks, no matter how much I pray that they'll suddenly disappear one day, or no matter how much I wish upon a star, or no matter how much stretch mark cream lotion I use, they're stuck with me for now until I can save money & maybe do something about it later, later on. For now, I will do what I can to make my tummy look it's best, & I know that I can achieve that by making it tight & fit by working out. Sometimes you just gotta work with what you got friends :)

Things I learned from Today's Run

It was a hot & humid run!
It's amazing how much you can learn on one long run. I was just going to run for 25 minutes, it turned into 45, then into 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 5 seconds. I was like Forrest Gump, I just kept on running. My body must've really missed running bc it just didn't want to stop. I had a bit of a neck injury (strain) and was out for 9 days, so today's run felt amazing. Here are the things I learned:
  1. It's amazing how dark you can get even though it is 6pm and the sun is no longer blazing.
  2. It's not cool to get so darn dark when you have an armband for your itouch. I did not tan there:(
  3. Sprinklers are a runner's best friend, not dogs, sprinklers.
  4. The shoes I wore today require over-the-ankle ankle socks. I now have a blister. ugh.
  5. Power Gels really do give you energy, about 45 min extra energy, since I just didn't feel like stopping.
  6. There are not enough water fountains in a park. I passed 2 going around 3/4 of the park & one was broken. Punk.
  7. Some people wear too much cologne or perfume. You DO NOT need it when you are walking or running in 90 degree weather people!
  8. Why don't people pick up their dog's poop?
  9. If said people aren't going to pick up their dog's poop, why don't they at least move their dog over a few inches and let them do it on the grass? I did not sign up for an obstacle course run.
  10. It's amazing how long the run feels when you are dying of thirst.
  11. Some people are sooo nice. By some people, I mean the clerk at the gas station who did not charge me at all for water. I think he thought I was going to pass out. lol
  12. My new running playlist is freakin awesome!!!
  13. Some people do not care if you are running towards them at a very fast pace, they will not move, though they are taking over the whole sidewalk, they expect you to step onto the grass and go around them... punks.
  14. But... they learn their lesson when they realize you are not going to go around. Anyone up for a game of chicken?
  15. Gatorade tastes sooo amazing after running for over an hour! So do fish & veggies.
  16. How do squirrels end up dead on a road to dead on a sidewalk? Does someone move them? I swear I jumped over 4 of them.
  17. Guys are such pervs. "Hey girrrrl, wats up?" Seriously? I have headphones on & you're an idiot. Don't expect an answer.
  18. Some drivers will not stop for you on a crosswalk, even though you have the right of way.
  19. Some drivers will not scoot away from you on a road. If you do not have fast reflexes, you might just join them squirrels.
  20. Eating pizza the day before a run, will make the first mile suck. Big time. I wanted to vomit after that first mile.
  21. The green walking man never appears on a highway intersection crosswalk sign, no matter how many times you push that little crosswalk button. It always says DO NOT WALK & shows you the red palm. You know what I have to say about that? "Run, Reyna, don't get hit!!!!!!!!" That's right motha-freak, that's right.
