Holiday Outfits

Hi guys, a lot of you ask me what kind of outfits I would wear out at night for the holidays. I decided to use Polyvore to come up with some outfits. Here are 3 outfits that I thought were super cute, stylish, yet edgy, & the last one is super glam. Hope you love them! If you want feel free to follow me on Polyvore.
A Holiday Night Out

This one can be easily found at H&M & Forever 21 stores for a MUCH MUCH cheaper price than this inspiration board. Plus, that mini bowling bag purse is only $50! So freakin' cute & it can be worn during Spring & Summer also! Year round purse!

This next one is one that I actually made last year around this time & I still love. Can't believe my style hasn't changed much. I love the very tough boots with the very ladylike dress & cardigan. Plus, those spike boots are only $71! Compared to the Jeffrey Campbell Boots which range in the $175-$200's.

Glamour Glory

Glamorous Party

I love this outfit because it's super glamorous, but so simple. You can find a cape at any store right now because it is such a huge trend. I have a dress like this (short sleeve & in black) but with the same rouching & see through-ness that I got for $5 at Rue 21 last year.  Lastly this clutch is black & with gemstones. I've seen these at Forever 21 dozens of times.

Now of course you don't have to buy the exact items on the board, but use them as inspiration for your holiday wardrobes. Please feel free to ask me what or how I'd wear a single piece. Maybe a black tee, a scarf, or jeans? I'll make several outfits for you :)

Leopard Outfit of the Day

How has your Thanksgiving holiday been? Mine has been spent eating way too much food, snacking on way too much dessert, and watching too much tv in my pajamas. Ah, the good life. :) Finally I had to drag myself out of bed early to get ready for church. God knows I needed to put on something nice and freshen my face up a bit. Bumming is nice, but getting all dolled up is a whole other good feeling. I decided to wear my leopard dress today that I have not worn in almost a year! Wow. I have actually been wearing other clothes instead of wearing the same thing over & over again as I usually do with pieces I love. I got this little baby at Rue 21 for $5 last year. Don't know whether it will be there, though I'm sure that they will have something similar... Anyways, hope you love it! Leave me a comment, let me know what you think. Oh, and to all my New Subscribers! thanks so much for following!

DIY Skirt & Dress Aftermath

So yesterday I put a DIY Skirt tutorial, but I told ya'll that I was making it into a dress and here it is. I LOVE it! Seriously, in love with it. I can wear it dressed up with heels as I did today for church or dressed down with flats and sandals. Let me know what you think!

DIY Skirt

I have always loved leopard! It must've been my lucky day a couple of weeks ago when I found about 9 yards of leopard fabric for only $1 at a garage sale. Can you believe it? I made scarfs and sold them through my Glamour Glory page and set aside enough fabric for the day that I was in the mood to make me a skirt (or dress) with it. These babies can be quite expensive you know! The cheapest skirt I've found is one from F21 that was $12.00 but it was very short & more casual looking. I made my skirt longer, (since I did buy that short one from F21) and because it's such a thin fabric, I can wear it on a warm day or layer it over tights or leggings & some booties. Anyways....
Here are some of the pics that I used for inspiration.

I ended up making the skirt into a dress in the end, but the diy tutorial is how to make it into a skirt, which is the first few steps before adding the top part of the dress.
So let's get on to the tutorial!

You will need:
basic sewing skills,
some pins,
an iron,
about 1-2 yards of fabric depending on your measurements,
elastic waist band, any color, (I should've used black)
sewing machine,
thread color to match your fabric,
scissors,
measuring tape,
and just in case, a seam ripper... :)
Patience & a bit of excitement is also necessary.

I measured out a length of fabric that is 6" longer than the widest part of my hips. Then I measured out the width of the fabric to whatever length I wanted my skirt to be + 3" for seam allowance.
 I snipped at 40" since it's 34" (size of hips) + 6".
Then I tear, some fabrics will tear perfectly straight, you can cut if you've never tried it.
You can do this for the bottom (width) also!
I cut my elastic band to the size of my waist. As you can tell it is shorter than the length of my fabric.
Pin the ends of elastic band to the ends of fabric.
Stretch the band until it's straight with fabric & pin while the elastic band is straight. This way you will not get pleats, but a perfect gather all the way around.
The more pins the better & easier it is when sewing.
I just left my sewing machine on its regular stitch. It automatically makes the needle on the left side.
I placed the edge of my fabric w/the edge of the right side of the foot. Only 1/2". Backstitch on both sides.
Make sure you that you hold your fabric taut as you sew. This helps so that you don't get any pleats but that it sews the elastic straight onto the fabric and then gathers nicely. TIP: Pull BOTH sides of the elastic or else you'll pull the front too hard & the machine will fly towards you. (not that this happened to me once... or twice.)
 PULL TAUT on BOTH sides!!
It should look like this once you're done sewing.
This is the other side.
Now fold it over 1 time so that the white is tucked in the middle of the fabric & pin the ends, & stretch the elastic to pin the middle.
This is what it will look like pinned after being turned over.
Again, the more pins the better & easier it is.
Align the right side to the 5/8" marker & put the edge of fabric under the foot. You should be sewing right on top of the last stitch. TIP: Don't take the first pin out until you have the presser foot down. The fabric will stay in place & it won't start off sewing the fabric down crooked. BACKSTITCH on both sides.
REMEMBER: pull the fabric taut so that the fabric doesn't get bunched up under the elastic. But, don't pull until you have fabric on the back side to hold onto or you'll break needle or cause your thread to get tangled under the foot.
This is what it should look like now, front & back.
 Closer view.
Luckily my selvage was the bottom of my fabric (& didn't have a different ugly print) so I didn't have to bother with folding up and sewing the bottom. See it just fades on the inside of my fabric.
But, if you aren't that lucky, then fold over your fabric 1/2", pin, & press.
Then fold it over again another 1/2" and press. Then sew 1/4" away from the top. Don't forget to backstitch on both ends. Done.
Now pin the edge of your skirt, which will be your center back because we cut one long piece instead of two short pieces. (easier:)
Sew straight stitch at the 5/8" marker.
After I sew that, I changed my settings to zig-zag since I don't have a serger. Zig-Zag is 3 on my machine.
And put the line of stitching I just made right under the left side of my foot.
This is what it should look like afterwards.
I cut/cleaned the edges with scissors. ( I really need a serger!) & then I pressed the seam to the right.
ALL DONE! Here is the skirt! Hope you liked this tutorial! Let me know if you want more! :)
P.S. Tomorrow (or the next day) I will have an OOTD of the end result of this skirt. Since I ended up making it into a dress. Can't wait til' you see it!
