Ivory & Lace: McCall's M6561

So I'm kind of in love with this dress. It's so romantic and I even wore my new cream lace bra and let it peek out underneath. I just love how romantic yet sexy it is. Hubby loved it also. It took me a day and a half to make it. The half a day was for the tracing out and cutting of the patterns. The next day I sewed it together. I used a jersey knit fabric that I bought from Joann's. I layered with the same fabric and it was a bit heavier because it was double layered, and it only has spaghetti straps, but still I loved it. Because the fabric is thin it's kind of perfect for Summer. One thing though, Jersey knit is hard to press. Thankfully I have a serger so the ends were nicely finished. The pattern is from McCall's M6561. As far as the pattern instructions go, it was pretty easy, though there are quite a bit of pattern pieces and you have to buy enough fabric for the contrast fabric also if you'd like it contrast. You also have to know how to put in a side zipper. I chose one solid color but I might make it in a cotton print with a contrast solid color later on. Oh, I did make one change. I didn't add the little tab on the top of the shoulder. It looked quite weird and I think it looks better without it. (tab is pictured on the models at bottom of post.)
So, here is my dress!
(please excuse the bad quality, these were taken w/my cell)

  2. I love this dress pattern so much but its such a shame that it's designed for someone with no boobs! Thank you for the pictures it helped me realize that this pattern is just not for someone with my chest. You did a beautiful job, it's a shame the dress designer didn't do a better job with sizing variety.

    1. It is one of my favorite to wear, even now while pregnant, but I always have to wear a lacy camisole now, since my chest has tripled in size w/the pregnancy. I'd suggest making a muslin of the top and spreading it and adding muslin to it where you spread and then adding that to the pattern to make the breast pieces bigger. That way it would work for a bigger chest. Also, you could make a bigger strap (which might be easier to turn also) to give more support. Other than that, it should work just fine for a bigger top. I agree though, not made for bigger chested women w/out alterations to the pattern pieces. Thanks for passing by my blog and leaving a comment! Hope you can make it work, or find one similar! ;)
